Questions and Answer (other FAQs)

1. Why is data protection training important?

Data protection training is crucial because it makes sure that people who handle personal data know what they should do. It teaches them about privacy laws, how to keep data safe, and how to stop data leaks.

When employees are well-trained, it helps organisations avoid problems, follow the law, and gain trust from customers.

Anyone who deals with personal data in their job, whether they’re just starting or in a senior position, should get data protection training.

It’s not just for specific industries; it applies everywhere because everyone cares about data privacy. Training should match each person’s job, making sure everyone knows what they should do under data protection laws like GDPR.

3. How often should data protection training happen?

How often you do data protection training can change depending on rules, how your organisation works, and what kind of work you do.

But generally, it’s a good idea to start with training when someone begins their job, and then have reminders, maybe every year or when there are big changes in data protection laws or company rules.

Training should keep people updated on the right way to do things and remind them to take care of personal data.

4. What are the 6 main data protection principles?

The six fundamental data protection principles are:

  • Use data fairly and lawfully.
  • Keep data safe and secure.
  • Use data only for its intended purpose.
  • Ensure data is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Don’t retain data longer than necessary.
  • Respect individuals’ rights over their data.

5. What are the three types of data protection?

There are three primary types of data protection:

  • Physical Data Protection: Safeguarding physical items, such as documents or servers, from theft or damage.
  • Technical Data Protection: Employing technology to secure digital information, including strong passwords and encryption.
