INTRODUCTION OF COURSE
The First Aid at Work – Level 3 Award Re-qualification course is designed for individuals who need to renew their existing First Aid at Work qualification before it expires. The course updates essential first aid knowledge and practical skills to ensure that first aiders can continue to respond confidently and competently to workplace incidents and emergencies. This refresher ensures compliance with health and safety regulations and promotes a safer working environment.
TRAINING COURSE CONTENT
This re-qualification course will cover all the key topics required to maintain the Level 3 Award standard:
✅ The role and responsibilities of a first aider
Learners will review the duties of a workplace first aider, including assessing incidents, ensuring safety, seeking appropriate help, and providing reassurance. This section reinforces the importance of acting promptly and effectively in an emergency.
✅ Assessing an incident and prioritising actions
This section focuses on how to conduct a primary survey (DRABC: Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing, Circulation), manage the scene safely, and assess casualties. Learners will practice decision-making skills in prioritising care.
✅ Managing an unresponsive casualty
Learners will refresh their knowledge of how to manage an unresponsive person, including placing them in the recovery position and performing CPR for adults. This includes use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
✅ Recognising and assisting a choking casualty
This section covers the identification of partial and complete airway obstruction and the techniques for providing effective first aid in choking incidents.
✅ Control of bleeding and management of shock
Learners will revisit techniques for controlling external bleeding, using dressings and bandages, and recognising and treating shock (including causes, signs, and appropriate responses).
✅ Dealing with minor injuries
This part of the course will review how to treat small wounds, grazes, bruises, minor burns, and scalds safely and appropriately.
✅ Managing medical emergencies
The course will also cover the recognition and first aid management of medical conditions such as:
Seizures (including epilepsy)
Heart attack and angina
Stroke
Asthma
Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
Diabetes-related emergencies
✅ Secondary survey and ongoing care
Learners will refresh their knowledge of how to conduct a secondary survey to gather more information about the casualty’s condition, monitor them, and provide ongoing support while awaiting emergency services.
✅ Recording and reporting incidents
Learners will understand the importance of accurate record keeping following incidents and how to complete accident forms in line with workplace policies and legal requirements.

Demonstrate safe and correct CPR and defibrillator use
Recognise and manage major and minor injuries appropriately
